Nigeria’s biggest unions, the National Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), have called for an indefinite strike from 3 October following a joint session of the executives of both unions today.
In a press statement signed by the presidents of the NLC and TUC, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, the unions explained that the strike was in response to the federal government’s failure to take meaningful action “in handling the consequences of its petrol price hike on Nigerians”.
The statement was released in the tweet below from NLC HQ.

In the meantime, the president, Bola Tinubu, has not told Nigerians of his whereabouts. He was last seen six days ago in New York at the United Nations General Assembly meeting. There are claims that he is currently in France with an unknown date of return to Nigeria.
