Did he or did he not go? That is the question. The case brought by perennial presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar rumbles on in a court in Chicago in which Atiku is trying to compel Chicago State University to release President Bola Tinubu’s academic records. And Tinubu is resisting their release with every legal sinew in his body, despite a court order, claiming that obeying the order would cause him “irreparable harm”.
His refusal to release what should be uncontroversial information in normal circumstances has unleashed the swirling of rumours all over social media about his motivation. Some claim he didn’t attend the university and forged their certificate, while others claim he stole the identity of a female student with the same name, who has now passed away. One guy mused on Twitter that he thinks Atiku has already got access to the documents that he is requesting via secret means. So knows that they are pretty damning for Tinubu.
One guy has added another twist to the sordid tale. He said he knows someone that was a contemporary of Tinubu’s at the university. According to this guy, both Tinubu and this fellow Nigerian at CSU attended but left without graduating. Tinubu’s fellow student said the president got a job as a security guard in the 1980s because he was “lazy” academically. From there Tinubu got involved with drug dealers Adegboyega Mueez Akande and Abiodun Agbele, which ended up in him forfeiting $460,000 in 1993 seen by a court judgment as proceeds from the drug trade.
This guy believes Tinubu doesn’t want the release of his academic records because they would show he didn’t graduate and this means he forged his degree certificate.
