DSS files application to withdraw case against Kanu

The Department of State Services (DSS) have filed to withdraw the case against the leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu was charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation and appeared in the Chief Magistrate Court today.

The prosecution then applied to withdraw the case because they had uncovered new facts that required further investigation. This is in relation to terrorism and the DSS have applied to a high court to detain Kanu for 90 days.

But the application was rejected by Kanu’s defence on grounds that the DSS had not complied with the order to grant Kanu bail since 18 October. The defence also asked the court to request Kanu be moved to prison custody for easy access. He has been held by the DSS at a secret location since his arrest last month.

The court adjourned the hearing to December 1.

It appears that this application is another tactic by the DSS to keep Kanu in detention.
