A video has emerged on social media of Babatunde Fashola, aka the Minister for Darkness, speaking at the 7th Annual Bola Tinubu Colloquium in May last year, in which the minister put his finger on what was responsible for the chronic and perennial electricity shortages in the country.
Fashola didn’t know at the time that his comments in reference to the then Goodluck Jonathan administration would come back and bite him in the backside, now he’s underwhelming in the hot seat as the man in charge of ensuring there is adequate power supply in the country.
He claimed that the problem of inadequate power wasn’t because it was “difficult to generate, we have darkness because we have incompetent people managing the economy”. He added that “the economy was being managed by amateurs”.
Today, as darkness envelops the land, the allegedly “professional” Fashola has, as they would say in Nigeria, been “demystified” due to his inability to make a difference in the power ministry. All he has served up so far are excuses.
Unsurprisingly, none of his current excuses for power failure mention the competence of those in charge of the power ministry or the economy.
