Rotimi Amaechi, the former transport minister and two-term governor of Rivers State, proved he wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the box when, presumably trying to demonstrate how bad Nigeria’s reputation was, claimed: “If you’re not ashamed, I am ashamed. My passport was seized in Germany; my offence was that I was carrying a green passport. They kept me for nearly 30 minutes and I was going for a medical check-up in Vienna…”
If he was looking for sympathy, there was none forthcoming from Nigerians on social media.
@Optimus_Dracula tweeted in response:
A two time Governor, and a former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is telling the world that he was so useless that not a single hospital in the state is governed and country he was Minister for 8years and more is equipped enough for him to do his medical check up. A useless stupendous moronic bastard of a man.
@_THE_CRAFT3R_ continued in a similar vein:
You are going for a medical checkup in Vienna and you are not ashamed of saying it ? So your people in Nigeria are going to abattoir for checkup abi?
Rotimi Amaechi said he was detained in Germany for 30 minutes because he carried a green passport, on his way to Austria for a medical checkup. But wait, this same man was Governor of Rivers State for 8 years and couldn’t build a hospital good enough for his own checkups? You had power, budget, and 8 full years. Why are you flying abroad for basic medical care while ordinary Nigerians are stuck with failing hospitals? You’re ashamed of your green passport? We’re ashamed of the kind of leadership that abandons its people at home and runs to foreign countries for help. Your shame should not be about how you were treated overseas, but about how you treated your own people while in power. This is not just disappointing, it’s unacceptable. #LeadershipFailure #FixNigeria #ShamefulLeadership
The is the former governor of one of the richest states in Nigeria. All through the eight years in spent as governor, he couldn’t build a hospital that is fit enough for him to have a medical checkup. Nigeria will remain in the dark for a very long time.
Their immigration officers were probably wondering how a sane human being will travel on an eight hour flight for just a “medical check-up.” The shame is ours.
